It’s All About Jesus

We live in a world of noise, all manner of things trying desperately to capture our attention and devotion. This year perhaps more than ever. We will soon be seeing political campaigns ramping up to a fever pitch, perhaps louder and seemingly more urgent than ever.

If we’re not careful, we’ll find it easy to become distracted. Years ago, Charles E. Hummel wrote a little book called “The Tyranny of the Urgent” in which he explained how “urgent” things tend to keep us from attending to things that are truly important. It’s a trap we should diligently seek to avoid.

For this reason, this year at Silverdale Baptist Church we’ll be doing all we can to remind each other that “It’s All About Jesus.” Simple, direct – and true. It’s all about Jesus. You could say our primary goal, our main thing, is to keep the main thing the main thing. And that’s Jesus.

We have another Presidential election coming up toward the end of the year and the candidates will be making big promises – even brash promises – that if we elect them, they will solve all of our problems. This is why we need to keep our focus on Jesus, because He, and He alone, is going to be the answer to every one of the problems we could cite. He always has been, and He always will be.

Acts 4:12 assures us about Jesus, “…there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” There is something unique, unprecedented about the name of Jesus. You could list the most important people of all time and you wouldn’t find one that could begin to approach the power and impact of Jesus Christ.

As we read the first 12 verses of Acts 4, we discover in His name we find boldness. We find answered prayer. We find victory. And most important of all, we find salvation – forgiveness for our sins, reconciliation with God, a new life, and the promise of spending eternity in heaven with Him.

What kinds of problems are you facing today? Financial ones? Marital or family problems? Challenges at work? Lack of direction or purpose for your life? You won’t find answers to those problems in Washington, D.C., or the state capital. You won’t find them on the Internet, social media, or a TV talk show with so-called “experts.” You won’t find the answers you need in a bottle or another human being.

But you can have 100% confidence you can find those answers in Jesus. He said, “Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) We have just entered a new year, and there’s no better time than right now to recognize that “It’s All About Jesus!”
