Relentless

“Most of us are more concerned about having ourselves honored instead of honoring others. We often selfishly look out for number one. What’s in it for me? Well, in the Body of Christ, that can’t exist. Think about it, what could God do through a church where individuals were less concerned about getting the credit and more concerned about God getting the glory?”

– Pastor Tony Walliser

“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

– Romans 12:10-12 NIV

For a number of years, I started, ran, and coached a girls’ spring/summer travel basketball program in Northwest Florida and South Georgia.

Though we traveled some, we tended to focus more on fundamental development versus playing a national schedule (as some programs might). Thus, our kids tended to be those who were developing their basketball skills to be able to better contribute on their school team…or they were more “seasoned and developed” players that didn’t necessarily want to travel as much to play and improve (or they played on another national team along with our regional team.)

Each year, we would develop a t-shirt to commemorate the season. It was fun and made me proud to see them and their parents wearing the shirts around the area throughout the years.

One year, our shirt said #ChaseGreat…charging us all to chase greatness in our day to day life as we live, love, and play our game.

Another year, the T-shirt had one word that best described the way our girls played – RELENTLESS. Though we didn’t always win, we were relentless in our effort. We relentlessly competed.

Relentless ~ continuing without becoming weaker, less severe, etc.: Remaining strict or determined: showing or promising no abatement of severity, intensity, strength, or pace: unrelenting <relentless pressure> <a relentless campaign>

However, more importantly, the back of the shirt better explained the word choice… the deeper meaning, if you would:

Storm Creed

Relentlessly striving to glorify God through:

How hard we play

How well we do

And how much fun we have doing it

I wonder what might happen if we as individuals took up this creed in our day to day activities…. in our work… in our family life… in our faith life?

I wonder what might happen if we began to live out the truth found in Romans 12:10-12?

Relentlessly striving to glorify God through all that we do:

  • How hard we play (pray, work, love)
  • How well we do (compete, study, work, live, love, walk as Jesus walked)
  • How much fun we have doing it (letting our joy shine in and on the world around us)

I wonder what life might look like if we lived RELENTLESS for Him and His glory?
