Baptism, is often the next step once someone believes in Jesus. Baptism does not make you a believer; rather it shows that you have chosen to believe.
Baptism symbolizes that you have accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, that your old life has been put to death, and that you have new life in Jesus Christ. It’s an act of obedience.
At Silverdale, we immerse believers when they are baptized because we believe Scripture shows that Jesus modeled that as the way for us to publicly acknowledge our faith in Him.
What about infant christening? While we recognize the choice of other churches to practice infant christening, we understand Scripture to teach that only professing believers qualify for baptism.
Is Baptism Required For Church Membership? At Silverdale, we require those who have not been baptized by immersion to be baptized. We do not want to question a person’s salvation experience or diminish his or her Christian heritage, but we want to unite our membership in belief and practice.
