You may recommend any male member of our Silverdale church who is at least 30 years old and who has been a member of our church for at least a year that you believe is scripturally qualified to serve as a deacon.
Make your recommendation prayerfully using the scriptural qualifications in the box below.
Please use a separate form for each recommendation.
Scriptural Qualifications for Deacons
No man shall actively seek the office of Deacon, either through his own speech or activities or that of his family or friends. Such activity known in the church, or in the opinion of the church, serves to disqualify for election. The Bible directly states that the office should seek the man.
“brethren, seek out from among you…” Acts 6:3
Men who are nominated shall be those who cooperate and help in the WHOLE program of the church.
“But let these also first be tested…” 1 Tim. 3:10
Deacons should be Spirit-filled men of God whose lives reflect godly wisdom.
“…seek out from among you…men full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom…” Acts 6:3
Deacons should be men whose conversation is above reproach. They are to be truthful and consistent, honest in speech; men of character whose word becomes a bond.
“…must be reverent, not double-tongued…” 1 Tim. 3:8
Deacons should be men who are sober. Every Baptist enters into “Church Covenant” which requires the abstinence from both sale and use of alcoholic beverages.
“Not given to much wine…” 1 Tim. 3:8
Deacons should be men who are tithers. It is hard to conceive how a person can be a good steward of the business affairs of the church of the Lord Jesus Christ and is not a good steward with his own financial obligations to God. God’s Word teaches in Mal 3:10 that the tithe is the Lord’s.
“Likewise must the deacons be…not greedy for money…” 1 Tim. 3:8
Deacons should “Be the husband of one wife…” This does not disqualify the divorced but a deacon must have the present reputation of being a one-woman man.
“Let deacons be the husbands of one wife…” 1 Tim. 3:12
Wives of Deacons are also obligated to meet scriptural qualifications. They are to guard their tongues well. They should be that which becomes godliness. If divorced, it must have been for scriptural reasons.
“Likewise, their wives must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.” 1 Tim. 3:11
