Overwhelmed

People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.” - Mark 7:36-37 NIV   Sometimes a song and/or a song lyric speaks to me. It’s as if the words are saying exactly what I want and need to say to God. Or it’s as if God were speaking to my very soul through that music, that lyric, that song.Over my lifetime there have been a handful (or two) of songs that fit that bill, that speak to me, that share my heart’s cry for the Lord. And anytime I hear them, my mind and my heart are taken back to the place it first spoke, took me to the foot of the cross, guided me to the arms of Jesus… and I’m reminded of His grace, His mercy, His love.One of those songs for me is a song from a few years back… that became a “hit” in Christian music - “Overwhelmed” performed by my friends Big Daddy Weave.This is not to say that this song, or anything for that matter, replaces the Word of God for it is God breathed and directed. It is powerful and soothing, and allows us to hear, to read, and to begin to understand God’s love for us, God’s mercy and grace, what Jesus has, done and what His will is for us.A song can help remind us of what God has breathed, spoken, directed, done. It all can be overwhelming.There are moments, times, days, stages of life where we are overwhelmed by the negative, by life and work pressure, by fear and concern, by the moment.May we stop for a moment and allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by the greatness, the omnipotence, the creativeness, the love, the everything of our Savior Jesus Christ…Be overwhelmed. “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God - this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
