SOAPS
What is SOAPS?
SOAPS is a simple way to study God’s Word personally or with others. It helps us slow down, listen to Scripture, understand what God is saying, apply it to our lives, pray in response, and share what God is teaching us.
S — Scripture
Read the passage twice. Retell the passage in your own words.
O — Observe
Ask: What does this passage say about God, Jesus, or His plan? What does it say about people?
A — Apply
Ask how God is calling you to respond. Look for a sin to confess, a promise to claim, an attitude to change, a command to obey, or an example to follow.
P — Pray
Ask: What is God saying to me? What will I do in response? Then turn your response into prayer.
S — Share
Ask: Who can I share this with? When will I do this?
Why use SOAPS?
SOAPS helps us move from simply reading the Bible to responding to God’s Word in faith and obedience. Pastor Tony reminded us that Bible knowledge is not the end goal. God’s Word is meant to be heard, understood, believed, obeyed, and integrated into every part of our lives.
This tool is helpful for someone just learning to read the Bible, but it is also helpful for mature believers, families, small groups, and disciplers. It gives people a simple way to ask, “What is God saying through His Word, and how will I respond?”
