Core Components of Celebrate Recovery

  • Christ-Centered Focus: CR centers on Jesus Christ as the "Higher Power" and the Bible as the foundation for recovery.
  • Hurts, Hang-ups, and Habits: The program addresses a vast range of issues, including addiction, anger, abuse, depression, anxiety, and dysfunctional relationships.
  • Structure: Meetings typically feature a large group session (worship, teaching, or testimony) followed by small "open share" groups categorized by similar struggles.
  • Groups: Participants meet separately to work through the 12 steps and eight principles in-depth, often using curated participant guides.
  • Group Health: Small groups operate with strict guidelines, including no cross-talk, no fixing others, and confidentiality ("what is shared in the group stays in the group").
  • Peer Support: It encourages finding a sponsor and building a supportive community, promoting a safe space to share and heal.
  • Childcare: At this time, childcare is not available. For confidentiality and the safety of all children, anyone 17 or under may not be on campus, in the lobby, or waiting during CR. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and secure environment.

FAQ

If you are thinking about coming to Celebrate Recovery, you do not have to have everything figured out before you show up. Many people come for the first time feeling unsure, nervous, or even skeptical. That is normal.

Celebrate Recovery is a safe, Christ-centered place to take an honest next step toward healing. Whether you are dealing with a hurt, a hang-up, or a habit, we want you to know this: you are welcome here, and you do not have to walk alone.

Celebrate Recovery meets on Thursday nights at Silverdale.

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered recovery ministry for anyone who wants freedom from life’s hurts, hang-ups, and habits. It is built around the 12 Steps and 8 Recovery Principles, with Jesus Christ as our Higher Power.

CR is not just about stopping a behavior. It is about learning to live honestly before God, character formation, and take practical steps toward freedom and healing.

No. Only 1 in 3 people come to CR because of a alcohol or substance issue. Celebrate Recovery is for anyone who feels stuck, wounded, ashamed, controlled, overwhelmed, or unable to move forward on their own.

People come to CR for many reasons, including anxiety, anger, grief, codependency, control, pornography, alcohol, drugs, food issues, shame, past abuse, relationship struggles, perfectionism, or simply the sense that something in life is not working.

You do not have to decide whether your struggle is “serious enough.” If you are hurting or stuck, CR is for you.

A hurt is pain from something you have experienced or something done to you. A hang-up is an attitude, mindset, emotional pattern, or way of coping that keeps you stuck. A habit is a repeated behavior that has become unhealthy, destructive, or controlling.

Celebrate Recovery helps us bring these things into the light so we can experience God’s truth, grace, and healing in community.

Yes. Confidentiality is one of the most important parts of Celebrate Recovery.

We want CR to be a safe place where people can be honest without fear of gossip, shame, or judgment. The basic expectation is simple: what is shared and who is at CR stays at CR. We do not hide Celebrate Recovery, but we do honor confidentiality by allowing each person to decide when, how, and with whom they share their recovery story.

This commitment helps create the trust needed for real healing and growth.

A typical Celebrate Recovery night includes a Large Group gathering followed by Open Share Groups.

Large Group includes worship, a recovery lesson, or someone sharing their story of healing and hope. After Large Group, participants move into smaller Open Share Groups where they can listen, share, and receive support in a safe and confidential setting.

If you are new, we will help you know where to go and what to expect. You will not be left to figure it out on your own.

No. Celebrate Recovery is open to anyone.

You do not have to be a member of Silverdale, and you do not have to currently attend church to come to CR. Many people come while they are still wrestling with church, faith in Christ, past church experiences, or what it even means to take a step toward God.

Celebrate Recovery is a safe place to come as you are, wrestle with doubts, ask honest questions, and take one step at a time. If you are wondering whether CR is for you, we encourage you to come on a Thursday night. You can listen, learn, and decide what your next step might be.

You are welcome here.

Large Group is the first part of the evening where everyone gathers. It is a time to worship, hear truth from Scripture, and be reminded that recovery is possible through Jesus Christ.

Each week alternates between a teaching from the Celebrate Recovery curriculum and a testimony from someone whose life has been changed through the journey of recovery.

Large Group is a good first step if you are curious, cautious, or simply trying to decide whether CR is right for you.

Open Share Groups are smaller groups that meet after Large Group. These groups are gender-specific and designed to provide a safe place for people to share honestly about their recovery journey.

In Open Share, you are not there to be judged, fixed, interrupted, or given quick advice. You are there to be heard, encouraged, and reminded that you are not alone.

You are welcome to share when you are ready, but you are not required to share on your first night.

No. You do not have to share before you are ready.

Many people come the first time and simply listen. That is completely okay. Celebrate Recovery gives you space to move at an honest pace. We believe healing happens when people are ready to take the next right step, not when they feel pressured.

Just showing up can be a courageous first step.

An Open Share Group happens on Thursday nights after Large Group. It is a place to share, listen, and receive support as part of the weekly CR gathering.

A Step Study is a deeper commitment where a gender-specific group works through the Celebrate Recovery 12 Steps and participant guides together over a longer period of time. Step Studies allow people to go deeper in honesty, accountability, healing, and spiritual growth.

You do not have to join a Step Study before coming on Thursday nights. Thursday night m Open Group is a great place to begin.
